Scout (%untitled)% (4)OK…I just got back here from a week of fishing and relaxing in Lake Tahoe. This is a shot of “Scout”…an 18 month old retriever working/playing in the lake. He has nothing to do with the fishing trip…or this entry. I just like the shot…

Bill Silva and I like to fish together. Bill is Sharon Wilson’s step-father, and Sharon is David Wilson's cousin. If you’re a follower of this blog, you know how important these  people are to me.

Bill and I decided to try the East Fork of the Walker River for a fly fishing adventure. This river is famous for holding some HUGE Brown trout…and we wanted to try and catch some of them. We went through the best fishing store in Lake Tahoe…Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters…and hired Mike Curtis as our guide. Bill and I met Mike at their shop at 7:00 AM. We DID make a stop at the ORIGINAL Red Hut Cafe for a killer breakfast…

(%untitled)% (2) We jumped into Mike’s pickup with all of our gear and headed off for the Walker. We actually left California…drove through the high desert of Nevada…and FINALLY dropped back into California just east of the Bridgeport Reservoir. It was as pretty a drive as I’ve ever had! Being in the desert and looking at those beautiful Sierra’s still full of snow was breathtaking…

(%untitled)% After a couple of hours driving, we pulled off the road…drove down a rutted gravel road…and parked. Here’s a shot of Bill getting rigged up. We were anxious to hike down to the river and test our skills on these trout. (I’m not sure either of us felt skilled…It just sounded like something a guy should say). In retrospect…we had few skills this day!

Water was just roaring out of the Bridgeport Reservoir…and continued to run fast all throughout the “Miracle Mile”. That’s what this stretch of the Walker is called. It holds some monsters…and Bill and I both hooked 4 of them each. The problem we had was getting them into our nets! ALL of the trout were given “early releases”…

(%untitled)% (1)It didn’t really matter to us. We felt the tug…and saw the beautiful coloring on the big BIG fish. Of course I wanted a photograph of an 18” to 22” Brown trout in my hands. It just wasn’t to be this day….

(%untitled)% (5) Mike Curtis was a real pro guide and just a nice guy. Bill and I had a great day…almost perfect
